Our kids deserve to grow up in a world where asking for help is easy and stigma-free.\u201d<\/em><\/h3>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p><strong>Washington, D.C.\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 Today, U.S. Senators John Fetterman (D-PA) and Jon Husted (R-OH) introduced a resolution to support the designation of May 4 through May 10, 2025, as Children\u2019s Mental Health Awareness Week.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>\u201cAs someone who\u2019s been open about my own mental health journey, I know firsthand that silence can be deadly. Our kids deserve to grow up in a world where asking for help is easy and stigma-free,\u201d\u00a0<strong>said Senator Fetterman.<\/strong>\u00a0\u201cSuicide is now the second leading cause of death for 10- to 14-year-olds. Senator\u00a0Husted and I introduced this resolution to send a message loud and clear: asking for help is the bravest thing a person can do, and help is there when they do.\u201d \u00a0<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>\u201cNo child should have to shoulder mental health struggles alone,\u201d\u00a0<strong>continued Fetterman.<\/strong>\u00a0\u201cThis resolution is our way of showing every kid in Pennsylvania and across the country that Congress sees you and we want to be there for you\u2014whether that\u2019s getting more counselors in schools, holding social media giants accountable, or making mental health care more affordable.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>\u201cToo many of Ohio\u2019s children are struggling with mental health challenges. We need to be vigilant in understanding the harmful effects of social media, in supporting strong families and in shaping healthy environments for kids,\u201d\u00a0<strong>said Senator Husted.<\/strong>\u00a0\u201cOur resolution is a step forward in providing children the guidance they need to become resilient young adults.\u201d<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p><strong>Why it matters in Pennsylvania:<\/strong><\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:list -->\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><!-- wp:list-item -->\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.haponline.org\/News\/HAP-News-Articles\/HAP-Blog\/supporting-youth-mental-health#:~:text=Pennsylvania%20ranks%20fifth%20in%20the,into%20adulthood%20if%20left%20untreated.\">More than 15%<\/a>\u00a0of Pennsylvania teens<\/strong>\u00a0(ages 12\u201317) report suffering from at least one major depressive episode during the past year<\/li>\n<!-- \/wp:list-item --><\/ul>\n<!-- \/wp:list --><!-- wp:list -->\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><!-- wp:list-item -->\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fetterman.senate.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/PennsylvaniaStateFactSheet.pdf\">Roughly 57%<\/a>\u00a0of Pennsylvania high school students<\/strong>\u00a0with major depression do not receive mental health care.<\/li>\n<!-- \/wp:list-item --><\/ul>\n<!-- \/wp:list --><!-- wp:list -->\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><!-- wp:list-item -->\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.americashealthrankings.org\/explore\/measures\/mentalhealthconditions_overall\/PA?utm_source=chatgpt.com\">Roughly 18%<\/a>\u00a0of Pennsylvania\u00a0children\u00a0<\/strong>(ages\u00a03\u201317) have been diagnosed with anxiety, depression, ADHD, or a related\u00a0condition.\u00a0<\/li>\n<!-- \/wp:list-item --><\/ul>\n<!-- \/wp:list --><!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p><strong>What the resolution does:<\/strong><\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:list -->\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><!-- wp:list-item -->\n<li><strong>Designates May\u202f4\u201310,\u202f2025 as Children\u2019s Mental Health Awareness Week<\/strong>\u00a0to raise awareness of children\u2019s mental health and the importance of early detection, treatment, intervention and prevention strategies. \u00a0<\/li>\n<!-- \/wp:list-item --><\/ul>\n<!-- \/wp:list --><!-- wp:list -->\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><!-- wp:list-item -->\n<li><strong>Urges Congress, states, and school districts\u00a0<\/strong>to categorize and treat youth mental health as a top national priority and calls for the continued promotion of mental health in schools and communities.<\/li>\n<!-- \/wp:list-item --><\/ul>\n<!-- \/wp:list --><!-- wp:list -->\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><!-- wp:list-item -->\n<li><strong>Recognizes the link\u00a0<\/strong>between children\u2019s mental health and ample outdoor recreation, a healthy diet, regular socialization with peers and adequate sleep.<\/li>\n<!-- \/wp:list-item --><\/ul>\n<!-- \/wp:list --><!-- wp:list -->\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><!-- wp:list-item -->\n<li><strong>Supports\u00a0<\/strong><strong>local\u2013state\u2013federal partnerships<\/strong>\u00a0that are already expanding counseling, tele-mental-health, and crisis line access.\u00a0<\/li>\n<!-- \/wp:list-item --><\/ul>\n<!-- \/wp:list --><!-- wp:list -->\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><!-- wp:list-item -->\n<li><strong>Calls on families and communities<\/strong>\u00a0to take part in\u00a0awareness week\u00a0activities\u00a0that break stigma and connect kids to care.\u00a0<\/li>\n<!-- \/wp:list-item --><\/ul>\n<!-- \/wp:list --><!-- wp:list -->\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><!-- wp:list-item -->\n<li><strong>Reaffirms that\u00a0<\/strong><strong>mental health is health<\/strong>\u00a0and demands continued efforts to make services affordable and accessible for every child in America.\u00a0<\/li>\n<!-- \/wp:list-item --><\/ul>\n<!-- \/wp:list --><!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>The full text of the bill is available\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fetterman.senate.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Childrens-Mental-Health-Week-Res.pdf\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t","protected":false}}
