WASHINGTON, D.C. \u2014 <\/strong>Last week, U.S. Senator John Fetterman (D-PA), in collaboration with U.S. Steel and the United Steelworkers, submitted a steel plaque on behalf of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to be included in the America 250 Congressional time capsule. The inscription \u2014 Forged in steel from the birthplace of the United States of America <\/em>\u2014 recognizes Pennsylvania\u2019s important history in the foundation of the greatest country and its countless contributions for 250 years.<\/p>\n\n

\u201cI\u2019m honored to contribute Pennsylvania\u2019s story for all to reflect on and honor, and I\u2019m grateful for my colleagues who joined me in this effort. I\u2019m also deeply appreciative of the team of Pennsylvania steelworkers who worked quickly to make this plaque. At our country\u2019s 500th birthday, when the capsule is reopened, I hope all those present will understand just how awesome Pennsylvania and our steelworkers have always been,\u201d said Senator Fetterman<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n

In its efforts to celebrate our country\u2019s 250th birthday, Congress passed the Semiquincentennial Congressional Time Capsule Act<\/em> to direct the Architect of the Capitol to prepare a time capsule that will be sealed in the Capitol Visitor Center. Congressional delegations from each state and U.S. territory are allowed to submit one item that represents their history. The capsule will be opened during America\u2019s 500th anniversary on July 4, 2276.<\/p>\n\n

In addition to the steel plaque, a letter from the Pennsylvania Congressional delegation was submitted by Senator Fetterman. It was signed by U.S. Senator Dave McCormick (R-PA), and U.S. Representatives Chris Deluzio (D-PA-17), Mary Gay Scanlon (D-PA-5), Glenn \u201cGT\u201d Thompson (R-PA-15), and Madeleine Dean (D-PA-4).<\/p>\n\n

\u201cWhen this capsule is opened on our nation\u2019s 500th anniversary on July 4, 2276, we hope the history of Pennsylvania and the legacy of its steelworkers serve as a generational reminder of the birthplace of the United States of America and those who helped build it,\u201d wrote the Members of Congress<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n
