The executive order, signed by President Trump last week, tries to eliminate collective bargaining rights for two-thirds of the federal workforce, further undermining protections for civil service employees already targeted by the Trump administration\u2019s unprecedented federal workforce purge.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Senator Fetterman (D-PA) released the following statement\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/SenFettermanPA\/status\/1908214698178490621\">on X<\/a>\u00a0in response:<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px;\"><strong>\u201cAttacking union membership is deeply un-American.<\/strong><\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px;\"><strong>\u201cI salute and fully support this move.<\/strong><\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px;\"><strong>\u201cThe union way of life is sacred.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px;\"><strong>\u201cSEE YOU IN COURT.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>The White House order affects over one million civil servants, including a third who are veterans, by attempting to reclassify them as workers involved in national security to exclude them from labor protections. This move threatens the existence of federal unions, which rely on collective bargaining to secure fair treatment and better working conditions for their members.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>On Wednesday, Senator Fetterman joined his colleagues in condemning the Trump administration\u2019s attempt to dismantle federal unions.\u00a0<strong>The letter, signed by all 45 Democratic senators and two independents, reads in part:<\/strong><\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>\u201cThere is no evidence that the long-standing collective bargaining agreements at these agencies have jeopardized our nation\u2019s security in any way; to the contrary, the protection collective bargaining has provided for employees allows them to conduct their work on behalf of the American people\u2014including blowing the whistle on fraud or abuse\u2014without political interference,\u201d\u00a0<strong>the Senators wrote.<\/strong><\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>The Senators\u2019 letter is endorsed by the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO), American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE), National Treasury Employees Union (NTEU), International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers (IFPTE), and Service Employees International Union (SEIU).<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p><strong>Read the full letter\u00a0<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fetterman.senate.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/letter_on_federal_unions_collective_bargaining_agreement_eo.pdf\"><strong>here<\/strong><\/a><strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t","protected":false}}
