Washington, D.C.<\/strong> \u2013 Today, President Biden officially blocked<\/a> Nippon Steel\u2019s $14.9 billion takeover of the United States Steel Corporation. Senator John Fetterman (D-PA) released the following statement in response:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe original U.S. Steel-Nippon deal was a death sentence for the Mon Valley Works. They had zero concern for the USW members and our communities in the Mon Valley.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cU.S. Steel was met with a united front of hardworking union men and women \u2014 a firewall of resistance that forced Nippon to raise their bid by billions and make one concession after another.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Senator Fetterman, who lives across the street from U.S. Steel\u2019s Edgar Thomson plant in Braddock, has been outspoken on this issue since news broke of the proposed sale in December of 2023. Today, Fetterman filmed a video<\/a> on his roof across from the plant, standing with USW in opposing the sale. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fetterman previously filmed a video<\/a> in the same spot, slamming the proposed deal and vowing to do everything he could to protect the union jobs and block the sale.<\/p>\n","protected":false}}
