{"id":2373,"date":"2024-12-18T13:38:14","modified":"2024-12-18T13:38:16","slug":"fetterman-on-national-defense-authorization-act-vote","link":"https:\/\/www.fetterman.senate.gov\/fetterman-on-national-defense-authorization-act-vote\/","title":{"rendered":"Fetterman on National Defense Authorization Act Vote"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Washington, D.C.<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 Today, the U.S. Senate voted to pass the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) in a bipartisan manner. While this must-pass bill largely supports our national defense, Speaker Mike Johnson included a provision targeting the health care for transgender children of our servicemembers. Senator Fetterman joined Senator Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) and 23 Senate colleagues on an amendment that would have stripped this provision out of the NDAA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Senator Fetterman released the following statement:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u201cI\u2019m unapologetically supportive of our national defense and the trans community.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u201cI strongly reject the Speaker\u2019s performative show vote.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u201cMy AYE vote on the NDAA strongly affirms my commitment to our national security.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u201cMy vote does not, in any way, diminish my voice or mean I\u2019m turning my back on the trans community.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u201cOutside my office I have several flags including the POW\/MIA flag and the Progress Pride flag \u2013 because these are not incompatible values.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false}}
