WASHINGTON, DC \u2013<\/b><\/span> Pennsylvania U.S. Senator John Fetterman today joined U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg in Pittsburgh to formally announce a $142.3 million U.S. Department of Transportation grant for the Eastern Pittsburgh Multimodal Corridor Project. This funding will make major safety improvements to the I-376 (Parkway East) and the Martin Luther King Jr. East Busway, including the flood-prone \u201cbathtub\u201d downtown.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m proud to have worked with Senator Casey to get this funding to Pittsburgh,\u201d <\/b><\/span>said Senator Fetterman. \u201cThis funding will create jobs and strengthen the local economy, add infrastructure so pedestrians can move safely along the corridor, end flooding of the bathtub, and make transit more reliable across Allegheny County. We need to continue investing in Pennsylvania\u2019s transit infrastructure so that it\u2019s safer, faster, and more accessible for everyone.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

Senator Fetterman was joined at the event by fellow Western PA delegation members, Congressman Chris Deluzio (D-PA) and Congresswoman Summer Lee (D-PA), and Allegheny County Executive Sara Innamorato. Also in attendance were the Southwestern Pennsylvania Commission, Pittsburgh Regional Transit, ATU Local, and county and statewide labor leaders.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Eastern Pittsburgh Multimodal Corridor Project will improve bus safety and route reliability, add pedestrian infrastructure (including new sidewalk and crosswalks), address re-occurring flooding in the \u201cbathtub\u201d downtown through a new flood wall, and rehabilitate 10 bridges along the busway. Senators Fetterman and Casey wrote letters of support for this project in August and Senator Casey worked to pass Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), which funded this landmark grant, in 2021.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false}}
