The Seattle City Council\u2019s budget process is now underway. Councilmember Dan Strauss<\/a><\/strong> (District 6), chair of the Council\u2019s Budget Committee, released the following statement after Mayor Bruce Harrell announced his budget proposal<\/a> today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe need a safer, more affordable city where working families can thrive. As the federal government rolls back social services and pursues inflationary economic policies that make life more expensive, we as a city are pushing forward. That all starts here, by going to bat for the services and programs Seattleites rely on,\u201d said Budget Chair Strauss. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI am proud to see increased investments in affordable housing, food assistance, and public safety in the mayor\u2019s proposal. I appreciate his office\u2019s close collaboration over the past year as we have worked to stabilize the city\u2019s budget and defend our values. There\u2019s much more work to do. I want to thank every city worker and community partner for their efforts to get us to this moment,\u201d Budget Chair Strauss concluded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

About the Council budget process<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Now that Mayor Harrell has released his budget proposal, the Council will spend the next two months hearing from community members, discussing ideas, and amending the package.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During that time, the Council is scheduled to host 19 public meetings, seven public comment periods, and two full public hearings. You can learn more by reviewing the Select Budget Committee calendar<\/a> and the City Council\u2019s Budget Basics Web page<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meetings of the Select Budget Committee will begin on Thursday, September 25 at 9:30 a.m., with four days of presentations from city departments on the mayor\u2019s proposal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
